Landscaping/Gardening Team Member

Responsible for ensuring the successful preservation and restoration of a unique 900+ acre site in one of the fastest growing urban areas of the country, rare Charitable Research Reserve is an organization situated in the Region of Waterloo in south-western Ontario. Our primary goal is to successfully conserve the natural area and improve the ecological integrity of our landscapes. To do that we need to be a part of a community that values and connects with nature.

Do you love to garden? We have exciting opportunities for an enthusiastic nature lover with a passion for gardening and landscaping, ideally already equipped with hands-on experience or able and willing to learn.

Reporting to the Property, Facilities, and Gardens Coordinator and working closely with several interns, summers students and volunteers in a team environment, Landscaping Team Members will be responsible for the assistance of an effective and safe operation of all of rare’s gardens. Help us to make our gardens bloom with native species and buzz with pollinators!

Duties and responsibilities:

  • General maintenance of flower beds
  • Weeding
  • Mulching
  • Watering
  • Pond maintenance and cleaning
  • Lawn mowing
  • Pruning, trimming

Desired skills: 

  • Ability to use various equipment, e.g. lawn mower, clippers, pruning shears
  • Ability to work under strenuous outdoor conditions and in inclement weather
  • Minimum of 5h time commitment per week
  • Enthusiastic, committed and reliable
  • Understanding of landscaping basics is an asset
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
