Butterfly Monitoring Assistant

We are looking for volunteers interested in local wildlife, enjoy nature and contributing to the bigger picture of essential conservation efforts.

Tasks:

  • Accompany Ecological Monitoring Assistant on weekly walk of butterfly monitoring transects
  • Record all observations on data sheets
  • Assist with photography and identification of unknown butterflies
  • Take weather measurements (temperature and wind speed)

We are asking volunteers to commit to a minimum bi-weekly commitment. Flexible timing; between 10 am and 3 pm on most weekdays. 2-4 hour shifts

Required Qualifications:

  • Physically fit and comfortable walking over rough terrain (often off-trail)
  • Keen observation skills
  • Neat handwriting and well developed organizational skills
  • Some previous butterfly identification skills helpful, but not required

Training Provided:

Orientation session with Ecological Monitoring Assistant involving the basics of monitoring protocol and orientation
