Salamander Monitoring Assistant

We are looking for volunteers interested in local wildlife, enjoy nature and contributing to the bigger picture of essential conservation efforts.

Tasks:

  • Accompany Monitoring Technician on weekly monitoring of salamander boards
  • Observe salamanders in their natural setting and assist in species identification
  • Measurement of environmental factors such as wind speed and soil moisture
  • Record all observations on data sheet

We are asking volunteers to commit a mandatory 9 week commitment. Flexible timing; Ideally Tuesday or Wednesday Mornings

3 hour shifts

Required Qualifications:

  • Physically fit for covering uneven terrain
  • Neat handwriting and well developed organizational skills
  • Some previous salamander identification skills helpful, but not required

Training Provided:

Orientation session, as well as monitoring training given in the field
