Volunteer Bird Monitor

We are looking for volunteers interested in local wildlife, enjoy nature and contributing to the bigger picture of essential conservation efforts.


  • Walking predetermined routes and identifying birds by sight and sound
  • Completing and submitting monitoring forms
  • Optional digital contribution to eBird
  • Interacting with public trail users

We are asking volunteers to commit to a firm weekly commitment during Spring and Summer migration season; 4-6 hours in the mornings. Annually each Spring (approximately late-April to late-May) and Fall (approximately late-August to October)

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to identify birds by sight and sound
  • Physically fit to walk routes or trail of various length

**Some mentorship opportunities are available for amateur birders looking to gain experience with bird identification skills, contact research@raresites.org for more information**

Training Provided:

Orientation session, as well as initial training session
