Giving Tuesday 2016

GivingTuesday Countdown

Can you believe we’ve come to the end of the year already? Where did it go? It seems like only yesterday we were gearing up for the start of the field season and now we are winding down – this is the perfect opportunity to reflect on some of the exciting accomplishments we’ve achieved together because of your support:

  • The BioBlitz event offered the opportunity for the community to discover the property and the importance of biodiversity. In total, 460 unique species were observed, including 45 species new to our property records. A young girl actually discovered one of the butterflies new to our lists! Thank you for supporting research at rare!
  • In partnership with local organisations and volunteers, rare harvested and donated over 6,700lbs of fresh, organic produce to local food banks – almost triple the amount compared to our previous record. Your donations and volunteer time are addressing food insecurity in Waterloo Region, this project also teaches the benefits gardening has on health and the environment.
  • University of Guelph M.Sc. student and rare’s Ages Foundation Fellowship recipient, Mason Stothart, investigated the physiological and ecological characteristics that make Eastern Grey Squirrels successful urban colonizers, and the stress that accompanies city-living.

You can give a rare gift this holiday season! With the end of the year here the holiday season is also upon us. It’s time to think about giving – giving presents, giving love and giving back to the community. This year TWO of our supporters have issued a challenge – every dollar you donate to rare between now and the end Giving Tuesday, November 29, will be matched up to $2000 allowing you to double your impact!

Every year Canada Helps hosts GivingTuesday, a global day of giving. After many participate in the growing consumer culture and contribute to the sales of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, GivingTuesday is a time to encourage activities that support charities and non-profits.

There are many ways you can contribute to rare and the community. Whether it’s making a donation, volunteering your time, picking up trash on the trails, or spreading the word about rare – GivingTuesday is a movement for everyone who wants to give something back! Just as Black Friday kicks off the holiday shopping season, GivingTuesday is the opening day of the giving season.

Double your impact this giving season – your donation could result in $2,000 to help rare Turn the Map Green, protecting more than 3,300 species in 900+ acres of environmentally significant land.

You are invited to join us in celebrating this annual day of giving tomorrow, November 29 – consider making a donation and doubling your impact, become a rare volunteer, or simply help us spread the word about rare by forwarding this message to your friends and family or liking us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
