Food Bank Gardens Volunteer

Do you love to garden? We have exciting opportunities for enthusiastic nature lovers with a passion for gardening and landscaping, ideally already equipped with hands-on experience or able and willing to learn.

Join us in the Food Bank Gardens! Shifts will be Wednesday mornings (9am to noon) and Sunday afternoons (2pm to 6pm). The first volunteer shift will be Wednesday, May 22nd, and the second will be Sunday, May 26th. Shifts will continue weekly until October.

  • The Food Bank garden is a collective gardening space where people gather together to grow vegetables and fruit for the recipients of Food Bank programs in the local area.  Your helping hands are needed to produce good crops while you get a chance to learn about organic gardening!
  • Be able to assist with general gardening maintenance on the rare property including weeding, watering, planting, etc.

Training Provided:

Orientation session. No prior training is required, but some additional training may be provided on-site by the Garden Coordinator.

Expected Benefits:

  • You will help grow healthy food for those in the most need of good nutrition in our community
  • Gardening provides a sense of hands on accomplishment while providing stress relief and improved mood
  • Learn from others as gardeners with many levels of experience pass along tips and tricks to one another, creating an unstructured outdoor education environment
  • Increased awareness of basic gardening skills, healthy eating, and an increased understanding of local and sustainable food systems
  • Healthy physical activity in the out-of-doors

Please note – volunteer days will be cancelled if there is steady rainfall.
