NestWatch Monitor (Barn Swallows)

We are currently accepting applications for the volunteer role of NestWatch Monitor (Barn Swallows). If you’re interested in gaining experience in research and making a positive difference, then we’re looking for you!

Tasks:

  • Conduct mirror checks on Barn Swallow nesting structure weekly.
  • Complete and submit monitoring forms.
  • Interacting with public trail users.

Firm weekly commitment from mid-May to end of July.

Skills Needed:

  • Previous experience identifying swallows and conducting nest checks preferred, but not necessary. We welcome experienced and amateur bird enthusiasts.
  • Physically fit to walk routes or trail of various length.
  • Training is more intensive for this position and we can only accept people that are able to commit to monitoring for the full season.

Training:

Orientation session, as well as initial training session detailing barn swallows nesting biology. Some opportunities to shadow experienced monitoring, depending on experience.
