March Species Madness – Consolation Final

These two species may not have made it to the championship match, but there is still a chance for glory. The consolation final determines which species picks up the bronze medal in this competition. These creatures have faced down several challenges to get to the final four, so they deserve our respect, and like all our species, they deserve protected natural spaces in which to thrive.

Let’s have a show of respect for the River Otter (Lontra canadensis), who came into this competition via the First Four qualifier, and went on to defeat last year’s defending champion, the Red Fox. As we’ve said, these are undeniably charismatic creatures, built for swimming in the rivers they call home. Typically loners, otters are coming together about now to create the next generation, and with your support, we will ensure that they have clean streams in which to thrive.

And let’s have a hand for the Champion of the Plants, the Red Maple (Acer Rubrum), which toppled the previous Champion of the Plants, the Yellow Trout Lily, in the first round of this competition. Let’s show our respect for the colours the red maple contributes to our autumn canopies and how, without it and the sugar maple, we would have no maple syrup, and far less fun at Elmira this Saturday.

Let’s see these two have a great match in this consolation final, and then let’s come out tomorrow to follow our finalists and crown our winner of March Species Madness.
