Garlic Mustard Pull (May 25 – Morning)

Every year, rare takes on ecological restoration initiatives to enhance and rehabilitate the unique native habitats of this urban land trust. Join us and help conserve native biodiversity through the removal of invasive species! Volunteers can expect to learn invasive plant identification as well as proper removal techniques. This is a great opportunity for those looking to gain in field experience with ecological restoration and become more familiar with the flora of southern Ontario.

Garlic Mustard is an aggressive plant introduced from Europe as a potential food source, due to its leaf’s herbal, garlicky flavour. It escaped cultivation and has taken over many of rare’s forest understories. Fortunately, this species is relatively easy to pull from the ground, and with enough volunteers, we can restore many of our native ecosystems. We will also remove other easy-to-pull invasive species such as Greater Celandine and Dame’s Rocket as we come across them.

Cost: This event is FREE, but registration is required. Attendees meet at rare’s Lamb’s Inn headquarters at 1679 Blair Road, and staff will lead them to the site.
