Invasive Ground Cover Pull – Morning, June 23

Every year, rare takes on ecological restoration initiatives to enhance and rehabilitate the unique native habitats of this urban land trust. Join us and help conserve native biodiversity through the removal of invasive species! Volunteers can expect to learn invasive plant identification as well as proper removal techniques. This is a great opportunity for those looking to gain in-field experience with ecological restoration and become more familiar with the flora of southern Ontario.

Due to COVID-19, the 2022 field season may look a little different. The events listed below are subject to change or cancellation due to COVID-19. Please keep an eye on our events calendar throughout the season to get up to date information on events. The following events are free but registration is required and events have limited spaces available.

Help us remove “Invasive Ground Covers”, such as Periwinkle, Goutweed, English Ivy, and/or Lily-of-the-Valley. These plants were typically introduced to North America as ornamental plants, due to their ability to persist in shady environments and create a dense carpet of vegetation. Unfortunately, this tendency excludes native species and tends to take over large areas. Volunteers will help remove pockets of these invasive species that have appeared along the border of the property, due to the dumping of lawn clippings, and now threatens core habitat.

Cost: This event is FREE
