Phragmites Management

Description:

Wednesday, September 4, 2019
9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Meet at Lamb's Inn (1679 Blair Road, Cambridge)

Every year, rare takes on new ecological restoration initiatives in order to enhance and rehabilitate the unique native habitats of this urban land trust. Together with volunteer and community support, the rare Charitable Research Reserve is happy to provide meaningful opportunities for environmental education and stewardship through volunteer restoration activities. Join us and help conserve biodiversity in various locations on the property by removing Common Reed (Phragmites australis) stands which are outcompeting native plants and spreading at a rapid rate.

Identification of invasive species training will be provided on site as well as instruction on proper removal techniques. This is a great opportunity for those looking to gain in field experience with ecological restoration and become more familiar with the flora of southern Ontario.

Please note that Phragmites typically grows in wet areas!

Cost: This event is FREE

Each volunteer day will have a morning (9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m) and afternoon (1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.) session. Volunteers are welcome to sign up for one or both sessions.
