Butterfly Loop Planting Day

Wednesday, June 12, 2019
1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Meet at Lamb's Inn (1679 Blair Road, Cambridge)

Help us help butterflies! Springbank Gardens is a collection of community and educational gardens that sees regular interaction from schools, community members, and families.  Historically this area was cleared for agriculture and has been left to naturally regenerate. The Butterfly Loop, part of the Savvas Chamberlain Family Pollinator Conservatory, is an 850m trail around the gardens with 7 interpretive stops along the way. Each stop focuses on regional plants and flowers, and their relationship to butterflies, the benefits of restoration, and butterfly contributions to pollination in the region.

Since 2006, rare has demonstrated near unparalleled leadership in monitoring butterflies in the Waterloo Region. We have documented 77 native species of butterflies on rare land of the 80 species that are known to Waterloo Region. With increased availability of host plants, we will be providing habitat to all regional species.

Volunteers at this event will be planting species along the butterfly loop that promote butterfly diversity here at rare. This is a great opportunity to learn more about planting techniques, native butterflies, and native pollinator plants.

Cost: This event is FREE

Each volunteer day will have a morning (9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m) and afternoon (1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.) session. Volunteers are welcome to sign up for one or both sessions.

We are sorry but registration for this event is now closed.

Please contact us if you would like to know if spaces are still available.
