Photography at rare

The rare Charitable Research Reserve maintains its trails free to use by the community between sunrise and sunset. We welcome individual photographs taken for non-commercial use, as long as photographers remain on the designated trails, and do not disrupt sensitive landscapes, habitats, or research projects happening at rare. We invite photographers to share their experiences at rare across their social media platforms, tagging @rare_sites.

Commercial photographers and event photographers are required to book the site and pay a fee to help rare maintain and protect its lands now and into the future. To book a commercial or event photography session at rare, please contact rare@raresites.org. The minimum fee is $60 for a 45-minute session.

We do not permit off-trail usage of rare property for photography to protect ecologically sensitive habitats. The minimum fee is $60 for a 45 minute session.

To rent space at rare for celebrations of life, weddings, birthdays or other events, please contact Event Depot.

Drones

For the safety and enjoyment of other visitors, and to protect wildlife from disturbance or injury, we do not allow drone flying from or over rare Charitable Research Reserve. The only exception being contractors or staff who satisfy stringent Canadian Aviation Regulations for Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems, have specific insurances and have been commissioned or authorised by rare for a specific purpose to assist our conservation work – and in these cases the activity is strictly controlled.

Our reserves are important areas for wildlife and many of them are used for breeding. These sites are sensitive to disturbance; for instance, birds may feel threatened by drones and abandon their nests.
