Volunteer Position: Tree Nursery Assistant at Reep Green Solutions

Reep Green Solutions is an environmental charity that helps people in Waterloo Region live sustainably. Our programs on home energy efficiency, water conservation, healthy yards, and waste reduction empower participants to take action. In support of Reep’s mission and as part of Canada’s 2 Billion Trees program, Reep Green Solutions is creating a new native tree nursery to support local planting projects and provide hands-on experience and education in small-scale green industry operations.

We are in need of Tree Nursery Assistants to help grow, maintain, and distribute stock at the nursery to grow high quality trees to be planted where they are needed most in our community. Our tree nursery is located at 681 Blair Road, Cambridge.

There are many benefits to Volunteering at Reep Green’s Tree Nursery. You will:

  • increase your understanding of the importance of conservation and contribute to the conservation and restoration of native trees in our community.
  • gain skills in plant propagation, seed saving, and seed processing techniques.
  • learn about different types of native trees and their growth cycles.
  • meet and network with other like-minded volunteers and staff and access a network of resources and passionate environmentalists.

Tasks may include: weeding; watering; planting seeds; seed collection and processing; and the maintenance of trees, shrubs, and the greenhouse facility

You will need: Transportation to and from the greenhouse, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen/sun hat, and drinking water.

We will supply: Guidance, tools, a letter of recommendation upon request, and will serve as a reference if appropriate.
